Description
Chetana Vegetarian Restaurant (established 1946) is a historical landmark in the heart of the business district of Kala Ghoda. Its origins lie in a cultural cafe that was once the cultural hub in South Mumbai which prided a Chess Club as a part of its culture. Unusually, inside the restaurant is a bookshop specializing in Indian Philosophy (Chetana Book Center). Beside is a boutique specializing in Indian handloom garments (Chetana Craft Center). The founder philosopher/businessman of the establishment, Sudhakar Dixit, is the editor of an influential spiritual classic, "I Am That" (the teachings of a contemporary sage - Sri Nisargadatta Maharaj). His daughter, Chhaya Arya, herself an artist continues the tradition of Chetana.
