Bookmark this list of local eateries you must visit when in Mysore.

Hotel Original Vinayaka Mylari, Nazarabad Main Road

Hotel Myllari is the first stop of many once they arrive at Mysore. The iconic eatery has only six tables and three items on the menu. In contrast to the usual crisp dosas, the masala dosas at Mylari are soft and sponge-like, cooked over a wood fire, and served with a blob of butter on top in steel plates laid with a banana leaf. The place is crowded in the mornings, so be prepared for a long wait.

Hotel RRR Mysore, Chamarajapura

Hotel RRR is a popular biryani point in Mysore and the compact eatery is thronged by locals and tourists alike. Choose from their mutton or chicken biryani, each of which is served with two flavourful gravies for that extra kick.

Hotel Hanumanthu original since 1930, Mandi Mohalla

The modest eatery situated in Mandi Mohalla has been serving their iconic Mutton Palav (not biryani) since 1930. The meat is freshly butchered before the preparation and cooked with rice and home-ground spices on a woodfire. We like how the spices don’t overpower the palav and let the tender meat shine. Kaal soup, mutton liver, keema, and fry are other options on the menu.
