See the tribal life: Arrive in Guwahati and drive to Dirang via Bomdila, land of the

Monpa tribes. Dirang is also famed for its apple orchards and natural hot springs. En

route, you can stop at the Tippi Orchid Centre. Explore the Sangti Valley, which attracts

the migratory black-necked crane from China. Take in also the charms of Mandala, go

on village walks and get up close with the inhabitants.

Trip across Alpine passes: Head to Tawang, taking the scenic route that follows the

Dirang River before going uphill and reaching the Sela Pass, an alpine pass that’s

snowbound most of the year. Descend again to Tawang Chu with the towering snow-

capped peaks looking down on you and the gushing Nuranang river coursing through

the landscape. You can also take a detour and visit the spectacular Nuranang Falls. Visit

the famous Tawang Monastery, one of the oldest in India.

Soak in the lakes: Drive to the high altitude lakes of Pangong Tang Tso, with the

journey being as enchanting as the destination.

Wildlife adventures: Drive to Bomdila, with its mist-covered mountains, orchards and

monasteries. Linger over the sights you may have missed on your drive to Tawang.

From here, set off for the Nameri National Park that sprawls along the banks of the Jia

Bhoroli River. Stay in tented accommodation and get a taste of local culture watching a

Bihu dance performance. Explore the national park that is home to species such as the

white-winged duck, hog deer and also herds of ambling elephants. Go rafting down the

Jia Bhorali River, it’s a gentle exercise with none of the rough-and-tumble of white-water

adventures and the perfect sign-off for Arunachal Pradesh.
